MEETING WITH MISTER LU

His stylist background, from the hectic pace of the Sentier in “fast-fashion” style to the prestigious codes of Parisian haute couture, honed the spirit and hands of Mr.Lu. Eager to pursue his adventure in the capital of fashion, he establishes Lelu in 1996 searching for creative freedom that he doesn’t find anymore in textile. Freedom that he wishes to transmit to his contributors to ” make anyone glad to go to work the morning and proud of his achievements at evening.”

 

HOW ARE YOUR IDEAS BORN ? 

When I talk about creative freedom, it’s more about the freedom of searching for inspiration, no matter where it is, beyond my market.

I explore the realm of painting and architecture, keep track of every trip, culture that I encountered in notes or sketches. Nothing is lost, everything is transformed…

 

This is how I often revisit existing products, for which I imagine other uses than its primary goal. I like the idea of contributing to the creation of original and evocative experiences during the time of a meal.

 

Of course, depending on the customer’s needs and constraints, be it economical or technical, I will adapt my thinking to give them a customized product.

This is a part of the challenge. A creation without purpose, visual value and use would be against what Le Lu seeks : add value. For example, a product that’s meant to be used in an oven won’t be used the same way as a purely decorative one. It will also assimilate norms and regulations for its proper use.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN YOUR NOTEBOOKS RIGHT NOW ?

There’s a before and after the pandemic.

In this more than actual context, I like to project myself within tomorrow’s uses. I want Le Lu to help its customers by accompanying them with the growth of their business, with the ” take-away” for example. But also, with everything that would let them sell better their products and services.

 

That why I sketch new packaging, ecological most of the time, with strong identities, always!
